Operation Choke Hold?

fake_steve_jobsJournalist Dan Lyons, aka fake Steve Jobs, is at it again with his popular blog.  Dan is urging AT&T iPhone customers to intentionally flood the network with data traffic in an effort to bring the network to its knees.

In his blog post on Monday Dan urged iPhone users to use data intensive apps(vidoe streaming) on friday at 12:00 PM PST for one solid hour.  He is calling this event Operation Choke Hold.

As expected AT&T is not very happy about this operation and relesed a comment, “We understand that fakesteve.net is primarily a satirical forum, but there is nothing amusing about advocating that customers attempt to deliberately degrade service on a network that provides critical communications services for more than 80 million customers,” an AT&T spokesperson said in an e-mail. “We know that the vast majority of customers will see this action for what it is: an irresponsible and pointless scheme to draw attention to a blog.”

Now I would never condone such an operation, but with AT&T’s recent comments about iPhone users, their seeming inability to improve there data network and the fact that they have an exclusive contract with Apple for the iPhone in the United States, does make them an obvious target.  Hopefully they will want to reconsider some of their comments and their effort when it comes to the users who revitalized their company.  Who is going to feel sympathy for a company that makes millions off of a product and then complains that it is to hard to provide service for?

The bad news for AT&T iPhone users is that AT&T will soon raise its prices for data, which will just cause more people to unlock and switch to other carriers like T-mobile and will introduce more people to Cydia witch is awesome for us!  Keep it up AT&T, when that contract ends in 2010 the iPhone users leaving your service will be like rats jumping off a sinking ship.
